Special Event: Symptom Management Challenges at End of Life

Optum Hospice Pharmacy Services, in partnership with the Macy Catheter Team recently offered this program which was presented by Amanda Lovell, PharmD, BCGP, from Optum Hospice Pharmacy Services. CLICK HERE for copy of handout.

Description: At the end-of-life, patients frequently lose swallowing ability. As many comfort medications are typically given through an oral route, symptom management can become difficult. This presentation will review common symptoms encountered at end-of-life including pain, nausea, anxiety and agitation. The discussion will examine various routes of administration for treating these symptoms and selecting the appropriate dose and route of administration for common medications used for symptom management at end-of-life.
